The Making of "Terra": From Idea to Gold Leaf

Every painting lives on the studio table for weeks before it reaches a wall. Here is how "Terra" — one of our most loved pieces — came to be.

The spark

"Terra" began on an autumn trip past desert villages, where adobe walls turned every shade from cream to burnt umber in the late sun.

Step one: building texture

Layers of modeling paste are shaped with a palette knife — some calm, some rugged, like the earth itself. Each layer rests overnight.

Step two: glazes

A warm cream underpainting, then thin terracotta glazes that catch on ridges and pool in valleys — this is where the depth comes from.

Step three: gold leaf

Veins of gold settle on chosen spots like light through soil — just enough to make the piece glow.
